The ROAM Randonnee Rally is truly a Coldsmoke institution, now in its 11th year, the race continues its evolution as an enticing offering in our line up of competitions. The ROAM Rando is a Ski Mountaineering Race in the Heart of the Kootenays with great terrain and a stunning race course. There are lots of different options to participate including an Open Course (long course), a Classic Course (recreational course) and NEW This year…tag teams with combined ages divisions!  For those worried that you might not be up to the full course competition, grab a partner and TAG TEAM the Classic Course!  One team member will start at the gate, ski tour through the first half of the course, meet the other team member at the top of the Hummer Handle to high five so that the second team member can tackle the second half.  Now there is no excuse, find your partner and start training today!!

Race Check In: Saturday February 24 - 7:30 am Whitewater Ski Resort
Race Start Time: Saturday February 24  - 8:30 am by the ROAM gate at Whitewater Ski Resort

Equipment

Required equipment:

  • A 457 kHz avalanche transceiver which will be checked between 30 - 45 minutes before the official time of the start. It must be worn under the clothing for the full duration of the race and be in working order if/when checked at the finish.
  • Skins for ascending. No snowshoes. Booting is only allowed where specified.
  • An avalanche shovel with a minimum blade size 8" x 8" that has not been modified once manufactured.
  • An avalanche probe. Minimum length 200 cm.
  • Helmets. Must be worn properly.
  • Safety straps or brakes as required.

Suggested Equipment:

  • Skis with metal edges or a split board. 160cm minimum for men, 150cm for women
  • A backpack of 20 litres minimal

Awards Ceremony
