A Companion Rescue Skills course is a must-have for all winter backcountry recreationists in any sport because it teaches life-saving search and rescue techniques. The CRS information in this session may be the first step of your avalanche training, or an important refresher for those with previous training.

This experience is a full-day in the field and will cover a number of relevant topics experientially including: how to consider and incorporate preventative measures, prioritize actions if caught in an avalanche, understand the function of airbags, understand transceiver functions and practice transceiver skills, apply search and rescue techniques, practice searching without a transceiver, consider multiple burial situations, organize a group rescue, identify post-incident considerations.

Basically, this session will take you through a number of educational modules that will help you be a more prepared partner and backcountry traveler in the winter. This is not a powder-skiing session! The session will take place within the ski area boundaries at our training area. This is a great opportunity to learn how to use your own gear better OR to help you decide what gear you’d like to purchase or change for updating your tool kit.
